She's So Bright - Thoughts for the Weekend, February 2, 2018
The photo I submitted this week to our photography club competition!

IT’S GROUNDHOG DAY!

I’ll be watching the film on repeat today (it’s one of my favorites!), but whatever the groundhog saw, I don’t think we’re lucky enough to have an early spring this year. For one, it’s likely to snow next week and, two, I can’t remember a time in recent years that spring has come early, have you?

Now that’s it’s February, my mind is set on the hearts and flowers of the upcoming holiday, the excitement of the spring planting season, and the relief that we’re nearly at the end of the gloomy months. I can’t wait for the leaves to return to the trees, for the freedom to wear clothes that don’t bundle me up to the neck, and for our New Orleans trip in a few weeks. Travel plans are the one thing that always gets me motivated, but if you’re looking for a list of goals for the month, may I suggest this article. My favorite idea is taking your mother out for a lunch date – so thoughtful!

While I’ve got all my Super Bowl recipes to take on (food shopping today!), I found this recipe for green tea muffins, and I’m really excited to try them. My sweet tooth has been in overdrive lately, so it’s my attempt at tapering it off a little with something a little less tantalizing than chocolate chip cookies. I suppose it’s natural that when you forget to eat, you grab a snack that’s going to give you a boost, but after I eat my heart and soul out in front of the boob tube this weekend, I’m going to get myself refocused. I often feel like life is a balancing game where we’re continually juggling goals and priorities that set us a little off course. It’s time that I gently pull myself away from work and back to that place of remembering to eat lunch.

In other news, did you happen to catch this fantastic collection of celebrity portraits by the fashion brand Rodarte? It’s easy to see I’m a sucker for pretty clothes and flower backdrops. Or what about this image of Paris Hilton as Kim K.? I had to do a double take!

And speaking of photography…I’m so excited to share that I WON my first photo competition! The photo above, which I titled Pastel Popsicle, was well received by our camera club. How cool is that? I’m happy to have broken the ice on my first competition, and I’m really encouraged to get better and take more landscapes in the future!

Other than a whole lot of cooking, I don’t have much planned for the weekend. My cat has been glued to my side, so every few hours I find myself trapped beneath a black furry lump. It’s sweet, but always seems to happen when I’m in the middle of doing something, about to get up from my seat, or, like today, in a towel! I also snagged a few books from the library (this one and this one), but after reading this Cup of Jo article (which an awesome friend sent me), I now have a new bodice ripper in my sights. So, it’s reading, cooking, and snuggling that will fill the next few days. I may even convince Jon to light a cozy fire for me!

I hope you have a great weekend full of mouthwatering nachos, loud hoots, and a whole lot of rowdy, football fun. Keep your fingers crossed for an early spring. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a date with a Punxsutawney groundhog!
