Is it really the weekend if it’s this cold?

Found this photo from Iceland’s Glacier Beach in my archive – it was much warmer then…

I hope you’re having a great start to the New Year! I have already eaten waffles twice for breakfast (it’s only the 5th!), so obviously the year is off to a roaring good start.

We’re hunkering down through this arctic weather and have stocked up on enough food that we don’t need to leave the house for a week. Someone just skied past my office window, and you probably agree that this is the nature of things on the east coast. While it’s not quite The Shining, the single digit freeze and high winds over the next few days will ensure that I don thick wool socks and enjoy the outdoors from behind the safety of my windowpane. It’s a shame, really, because swirling, snowy weather, makes for great photographs, and I’m eager to start submitting pictures to my newly joined camera club’s competitions. However, it’s simply too cold, and at the possibility of -4 Fahrenheit I value feeling in my fingertips over a few photos of a snowy beach.

I’m still recovering from our trip to France (they don’t really eat salads there do they?), and have been adding back veggies and fresh fruit to my diet. Between the cold outside, the dry heat indoors, and a few weeks of “holiday eating,” my focus for the weekend is on my skin. I’m looking forward to a long soak in a hot bath, the satisfaction of leg exfoliation, my first experience with derma-rolling, and a face mask or two. Wednesday I picked up this popular book from the library, so needless to say I’ve got my weekend pretty much planned!

Did I mention my Christmas present from my beloved husband? He’s known among friends and family for being a great gift giver, and this year was no exception! When we got back from Paris, a Nintendo Switch was nestled under the Christmas tree along with the newest game from my favorite franchise, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild! Words cannot describe how excited I am to play this game, and from my first few hours on the Switch, I can tell it will be quite an experience. You might not hear from me for a few months, as that seems to be the amount of time it will take me to finish this game!

So between pampering, reading, and gaming my heart out, my indoor plans are made. No reason to leave the house, and I certainly wouldn’t want to this weekend! Whatever you have planned, whether indoors or out, I hope it’s fun! And if you don’t mind staying in, make sure you have enough hot chocolate, books, puzzles, firewood, and video games to get you through!

What are your plans for the weekend? I’d love to hear them! And on Monday I’ll be sharing my resolutions for the New Year – see you then! <3
